THE VOLUNTARY ASPECT OF THE RETURN IS FUNDAMENTAL, CARITAS INTERNATIONAL WILL NEVER TRY TO CONVINCE A PERSON TO RETURN TO HIS COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN.

About

Since 1984 Caritas International has been working with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on the REAB programme (Return and Emigration of Asylum seekers ex-Belgium). The programme helps migrants prepare for their return and provides airline tickets to the country the migrant is returning to. Under certain conditions the migrant leaving Belgium may be eligible for a REAB bonus that he/she will receive in cash at the airport upon departure.

DAY-TO-DAY AVAILABILITY

Employees of our Social Service (CAW Brabantia – Antenne Caritas International) may be contacted to discuss the return and to receive help in preparing for it. The social service is available every working day (from 8:30 – 11:30 am and from 1:30 – 3:30 pm).

Individuals may contact a social assistant in the morning to schedule a same day appointment. Everyone may speak with the service without an appointment to learn more about a voluntary return and the options available in the country of origin. The social assistants of the Sociale Dienst (CAW Brabantia-Antenne Caritas International) are in close contact with the re-integration team that takes into account the potentially vulnerable situation the person is in.

INDEPENDENT AND VERIFIABLE INFORMATION

It is a fundamental choice whether or not to return to the country of origin. Caritas International will never attempt to convince a person to return to his or her home country. However, we do provide independent and verifiable information about the options and perspectives in the country of origin and/or in Belgium.

The REAB programme is funded by the Belgian government via the federal agency Fedasil and is carried out by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
