Middle East: Humanitarian Emergency

We all pay the price of war. Some pay with their lives.

When conflicts drive up energy prices, everyone feels the impact. But in the Middle East, millions of people face the direct consequences of war every single day.
Present on the ground, Caritas stands alongside people affected by conflict across the Middle East every day.

THE HUMAN COST OF WAR

When conflicts dominate the headlines, the focus is often on inflation, fuel prices, rising energy costs or geopolitical tensions. But behind every crisis are millions of civilians whose lives are directly affected by war.

Across the Middle East, families are forced to flee their homes overnight. Others lose access to healthcare, education or livelihoods. Many live in constant uncertainty.

Behind these numbers are people who have been displaced, injured, killed, separated from loved ones or deprived of basic necessities.

CARITAS SUPPORTING PEOPLE AFFECTED BY CRISIS

Across several countries in the Middle East, including Lebanon, Caritas teams work alongside people affected by conflict and crisis every day.

With your support, they can:

  • distribute emergency aid such as food, drinking water and hygiene products
  • provide temporary shelter for displaced families
  • ensure access to healthcare through medical consultations
  • offer psychosocial support

Even in the midst of the most violent crises, people continue to protect, support and care for one another.

This human solidarity, even in the most difficult circumstances, is at the heart of our commitment. Humanity is Unstoppable.

A PETROL PUMP DISPLAYING THE HUMAN COST OF WAR

In Brussels, Caritas International installed a symbolic petrol pump displaying not fuel prices, but the human cost of war in the Middle East.

Through this installation, we want to make visible a reality people are beginning to overlook. Behind every number are shattered lives, displaced families and interrupted futures. Our role is to remind people that these crises are still ongoing, and that everyone can act, in their own way.

Sébastien Dechamps Humanitarian Coordinator at Caritas International

Your donation supports Caritas’ humanitarian actions in the Middle East: emergency aid, healthcare, shelter, psychosocial support and assistance for displaced families.

Caritas International works in Belgium and in many regions around the world alongside people in vulnerable situations.

Our organisation is part of the global Caritas Internationalis network, one of the world’s largest humanitarian networks, active in 162 countries.

The Caritas network brings together autonomous local organisations working in solidarity with one another. In times of crisis, such as in the Middle East, local Caritas organisations are often among the first to respond. They can rely on the support of the international network to coordinate humanitarian aid, strengthen local capacities and provide assistance adapted to local realities.
