Beneficiaries:

We find that, on average, 10 to 20 migrants for each session.

Objectives:

Educate refugees about the asylum procedure in Belgium, voluntary returns, and the risks they face when crossing the Channel to reach the UK, as well as we give them a realistic picture of asylum opportunities offered by the United Kingdom. A medical team from Médecins du Monde provides the necessary medical care.

Information center for cross-border migrants

Different groups of migrants wish to make the journey the UK attempt to cross from Zeebrugge. They often have few resources, have lived on the streets for a substantial amount of time and suffer from regular medical problems. They generally have little information on asylum procedures and the opportunities available to them in Belgium and the United Kingdom.

In collaboration with Médecins du Monde and the Bishopric of Brugge, Caritas International has set up a care and information center to meet legal, medical and humanitarian needs in Zeebrugge. Caritas International is responsible for the information and legal aspects of the permanence.

Vulnerable persons

We pay particular attention to the support of vulnerable people, such as single women and unaccompanied foreign minors. If necessary, Caritas International uses several partner organizations in the UK, as well as a team of professional tutors.

Every Friday, between 10 am and 1 pm, a team of two Caritas International employees are present in Zeebrugge.
